Hosted by the Friends of the National Zoo at the Smithsonian National Zoo, the Washed Ashore Art Exhibition features giant, imaginative sea life sculptures made entirely of marine debris collected from beaches across the country. The sculptures visually demonstrate the tragic impact of plastic pollution in our oceans.
Placed throughout the Smithsonian's National Zoo in honor of World Oceans Day, these larger-than-life sculptures—from jellyfish to sharks— represent the more than 315 billion pounds of plastic in oceans, illustrating the devastating effects of the ocean's deadliest predator—trash.
Since 1958, Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) has been the dedicated partner of the Smithsonian National Zoological Park. Together with the Zoo, FONZ is building a society committed to restoring an endangered natural world. The Change Happens Foundation is very pleased to support the efforts of FONZ to provide exciting and enriching experiences to connect people with wildlife.
